Tommy’s Opens on Old Airport Road: A Fresh Take on Bangalore’s Classic Neighbourhood Bar

In a city celebrated for its breweries and buzzing nightlife, Tommy’s brings back the charm of the classic neighbourhood bar—where the drinks are strong, the food is hearty, and the vibe is unapologetically Bangalore.

Located on Old Airport Road, Tommy’s is a 120-seater everyday bar that stands on a site steeped in local history. Once home to the legendary HAL Bar, later Krupa’s and Sai Krupa, this address has quenched Bangalore’s thirst since 1966. Now, it steps into a new chapter as Tommy’s, a playful tribute to its past with a fresh, kitschy spin.

“Bangalore has always had a culture of everyday drinking—not in excess, but in ease,” says Sujay Venkatesh, Founder of Tommy’s. “With Tommy’s, we wanted to bring back that spirit of no pretence, just solid food, great drinks, and a place that remembers your regular.”

Inside, Tommy’s brims with character. Cat memorabilia greets you at every corner—lounging on the bar, framed in portraits, and even welcoming guests at the entrance. The space is drenched in nostalgia with cassette-tiled walls, sticker-plastered windows, old-school music posters, and a handcrafted Rock-Ola jukebox (one of only four in the country) that happily takes your song requests.

The bar rolls out a wide range of cocktails and classic pours. Signatures like the Batanga, Tommy’s Margarita, the Suffering Bastard, and the throwback Strawberry Daiquiri shine alongside rotating draught beers and special-occasion bottles like Dom Perignon and rare Japanese whiskies.

Food at Tommy’s hits all the right notes—think classic bar bites and local favourites. From egg bhurji, bheja and gurda masala, mutton seekh, biryanis, masala papad, homestyle curries to chilli cheese naan bites, it’s designed to be easy, satisfying, and perfectly paired with your drink. A popcorn machine at the counter even nods to Bangalore’s old single-screen theatres.

Tommy’s has shed the grungy look of its predecessors for a cooler, more inviting feel. It’s still intriguing enough to keep you coming back—maybe to spin a tune on the jukebox, grab some popcorn with your beer, or cool off with a slushy spiked with spirits on a hot afternoon.

Like any good neighbourhood bar, it’s friendly on the wallet and promises to remember your regular order if you drop by often enough. Whether it’s a quick post-work drink, a long evening catching up with friends, or just a spot to play your favourite song, Tommy’s feels fresh yet familiar—ready to become a new Bangalore staple.

Tommy’s is now open seven days a week. Come for the cat energy, stay for the cocktails.

Burma Burma, India’s much-loved Burmese dining destination, is bringing the spirit of Burma’s tea shops to diners with its new limited-edition menu, From Burma, With Tea. Available from September 1 to 30, 2025, across all Burma Burma restaurants pan-India, the promotion is a tribute to the country’s vibrant tea shop culture where steaming cups of milk tea and hearty snacks form the centre of daily life.

At the heart of the menu is the Burmese Milk Tea, a timeless blend of black tea, condensed milk, and evaporated milk, served both hot and iced. Variations include the indulgent Yangon Royal Tea topped with cream, the Creamy Bagan Tea inspired by bustling markets, the Iced Milk Tea crowned with a milk foam cloud, and the refreshing Coconut Iced Tea blended with coconut milk and custard.

To accompany the teas, Burma Burma has crafted an array of flavourful bites and shared plates that echo the energy of Burmese tea shops. Guests can enjoy Chin State Potato Croquettes filled with five-spice mock meat, spicy Corner Cart Skewers, and Cracklin’ Burmese Dumplings stuffed with shiitake and edamame. Fresh options like the Seared Tofu and Avocado Salad add zest, while the Tea Shop Noodle Bowl offers comforting warmth. For dessert, the Tea Shop Toast, honey-glazed bread soaked in custard apple milk with clotted cream, delivers a sweet finale.

Ankit Gupta, Founder of Burma Burma, shared, “Burmese Tea Shops are living, breathing spaces of culture, community, and culinary richness, where friendships brew and stories simmer. This menu is particularly close to my heart, as it recreates those experiences for our diners in a Burma Burma way.”

Curated by Chef Ansab Khan and his team after extensive research and collaboration with tea masters in Burma, the menu captures the layered traditions of Burmese tea culture while offering a contemporary flair.

Rooted in nostalgia yet designed for today’s diners, From Burma, With Tea is more than just a menu, it is an experience of connection, flavour, and the warm hospitality that defines Burma. Ironhill Brewery Launches Its First Non-Alcoholic Beer, Zero Gravity AF

Ironhill Brewery Launches Its First Non-Alcoholic Beer, Zero Gravity AF

Published on September 4, 2025

Ironhill Brewery, India’s largest microbrewery chain, has unveiled Zero Gravity AF, its first-ever non-alcoholic wheat beer. With this launch, Ironhill takes another bold step in its mission to craft inclusive brews that bring communities together.

Zero Gravity AF is designed to give beer lovers the same rich experience they expect, minus the alcohol. Brewed with precision by Ironhill’s master brewers, the golden wheat beer offers a smooth body with soft, bready undertones. Bright citrus and tropical fruit notes from Citra hops blend seamlessly with the clean bitterness of Magnum hops, resulting in a refreshing and aromatic drink that stays true to the essence of beer.

“Innovation at Ironhill has always been about listening to our community, experimenting with flavors, and creating brews that suit every mood and moment,” said Head Brewer at Ironhill. “Zero Gravity AF is crafted for those who love the beer experience but prefer to go alcohol-free, without compromising on taste.”

What makes Zero Gravity AF unique is its brewing process. While most commercial brewers make beer up to 5% and then dilute it with water to reduce the alcohol level, Ironhill has taken the natural route. Using a special yeast and carefully controlling fermentation, the beer is naturally stopped at 0.5%. The result is a full-bodied brew with the right aroma, texture, and flavour profile — unlike the diluted taste often found in other non-alcoholic beers.

The beer’s name, Zero Gravity AF, was chosen through an Instagram poll, making it a product of both brewing expertise and community spirit.

Perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a casual hangout, pairing with global cuisine, or simply enjoying a refreshing drink on a weekday Zero Gravity AF delivers a crisp, zesty, and sessionable experience.

With this launch, Ironhill Brewery continues to lead India’s craft beer scene, combining innovation, authenticity, and community engagement to create brews that leave a lasting impression.
