On World Tourism Day, WelcomHeritage is highlighting the role of responsible tourism in preserving India's cultural heritage, supporting local communities and protecting natural ecosystems.
Sharing his perspective, Mr Abhishek Bhattacharya, Sales, WelcomHeritage Hotels, said that each property in the brand's portfolio carries a living story, ranging from historic forts and havelis to boutique retreats, nature lodges and wildlife sanctuaries.
According to Bhattacharya, WelcomHeritage's role across its collection of heritage, nature and wildlife retreats goes beyond hospitality and extends to active stewardship of the places and environments in which its properties operate.
India's diverse cultural and natural landscape provides a strong foundation for responsible tourism, which can contribute to the continued relevance and upkeep of historic properties while creating opportunities for local communities.
Bhattacharya also highlighted the role of tourism in protecting natural habitats. Nature lodges and wildlife retreats, in particular, operate within environments where conservation and tourism need to remain closely connected.
For hospitality businesses operating in heritage and nature destinations, this creates a responsibility to balance the visitor experience with the long-term preservation of the destination itself. This includes maintaining the character of historic properties, supporting surrounding communities and recognising the importance of fragile ecosystems.
WelcomHeritage's portfolio brings together properties across heritage, nature and wildlife segments, offering travellers experiences connected to the history, culture and natural environment of their destinations.
As responsible tourism continues to gain importance, the focus is increasingly shifting towards how travel can contribute to the places and communities that host it. For heritage and nature-led hospitality, this means ensuring that today's tourism experiences do not come at the cost of the destinations they depend on.
Bhattacharya said WelcomHeritage remains committed to ensuring that its properties continue to remain vibrant and cared for, while offering authentic experiences to today's travellers and contributing to the preservation of India's heritage and environment for future generations.
