In an insightful revelation, Wowtickets.com, a flight booking platform that has recently extended its services to India, has disclosed the top 15 travel destinations that captivate the hearts of Indian travellers. Through a comprehensive search survey encompassing 36 million travellers across the nation, the platform offers a glimpse into the preferred cities and routes that define travel trends within India.
As the travel and tourism industry is expected to generate an astounding USD 9.5 trillion in revenue in 2023, with projections indicating a rise to USD 16.9 trillion by 2030, India stands as a pivotal market in this global growth, especially within the Asia-Pacific region. The surge in travel interest among Indians is a reflection of the country's economic prosperity and a testament to the evolving lifestyle that now prioritises exploration and adventure.
The survey's results place Goa at the pinnacle of domestic travel destinations, followed closely by metropolitan hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Srinagar. These cities, known for their unique blend of cultural heritage, modernity, and natural beauty, cater to a wide array of traveller preferences, from leisure to business.
Regional travel preferences unveiled in the survey showcase distinctive trends, with Mumbaikars favouring Goa and Delhi, whereas Delhiites show a strong inclination towards Goa, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Similarly, travellers from Bengaluru and Hyderabad display a penchant for metropolitan cities alongside scenic destinations.
Intriguingly, the survey also uncovers unconventional search patterns, highlighting Indians' growing interest in exploring offbeat destinations. Searches for routes such as Lucknow to Gangtok, Mumbai to Leh, and Srinagar to Mumbai point towards a broadening horizon for Indian travellers, seeking novel experiences beyond the conventional tourist trails.
Dmitrijus Konovalovas, Director & CEO of Wowtickets.com, commented on the findings, emphasising the significance of the domestic tourism boom in contributing to India's stature in the global tourism market. He noted, "India's tourism sector is on a rapid ascent, driven by the adventurous spirit of the nation's youth and their zest for discovery. This burgeoning interest in domestic travel not only enriches the travel experience for Indians but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth in the tourism industry."
The insights from Wowtickets.com's survey shed light on the dynamic travel landscape in India, revealing not just the popular destinations but also the emerging trend of seeking unique and less-travelled paths. As the travel and tourism sector continues to flourish, these findings offer valuable perspectives for industry stakeholders, from hospitality providers to travel planners, in understanding and catering to the diverse needs of Indian travellers.

Star Air, a regional carrier under the UDAN scheme, has inducted its 10th aircraft—an Embraer E175—as it gears up to launch 15 new routes starting 15 May 2025. The airline is set to operate over 50 daily services across 24 destinations as part of its expanding network and long-term strategy to boost regional connectivity in India.
Bengaluru-based Star Air plans to grow its fleet to 25 aircraft by the end of FY27, with four more Embraer E175s expected to join by March 2026. The airline aims to serve over 50 destinations, with a sharp focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, helping bridge critical air travel gaps across the country.
“This expansion aligns perfectly with our vision of connecting Real India,” said Captain Simran Singh Tiwana, CEO of Star Air. “While the sector faces supply chain disruptions, Star Air’s stable financial backing and disciplined strategy give us an edge in scaling sustainably and meeting the rising aspirations of India’s next billion travellers.”
Star Air is the aviation arm of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group, a diversified business house, giving the airline financial stability to navigate industry volatility. Notably, Star Air is the only regional carrier to have successfully operated all routes awarded under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme since inception, serving over 1.5 million passengers through 300 weekly flights.
With the upcoming summer schedule, the airline’s weekly flights will grow to 350, as it moves beyond UDAN 5.0 to include more commercial city pairs. Despite its expansion, Star Air remains committed to its founding philosophy of inclusive regional access and providing reliable air connectivity to India’s underserved regions.
