Morocco's tourism industry has experienced a remarkable renaissance, defying global challenges and setting new records in revenue growth. In the first eight months of this year, tourism incomes surged by an impressive 32.5 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching an astounding 71.36 billion dirhams ($6.9 billion). This surge can be primarily attributed to the influx of tourists during the summer months, particularly in July and August, which contributed around 23.56 billion dirhams to the total.

The data, revealed by the Office des Changes, paints a picture of Morocco's resilience in the face of worldwide threats, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This remarkable growth in tourism revenue is a testament to the nation's unwavering spirit and appeal as a travel destination.

Governor Abdellatif Jouahri, during a recent press conference held by Bank Al-Maghrib, expressed optimism about Morocco's tourism prospects. He emphasised that the successful summer season, combined with the anticipated impact of upcoming international events hosted by Morocco, is expected to further boost tourism revenues. Bank Al-Maghrib predicts a substantial 23.4 percent increase in tourism revenues for the entire year, projecting a total of 115.5 billion dirhams ($11.1 billion).

July marked a significant turning point for Morocco's tourism industry, as revenues exceeded pre-pandemic levels recorded in July 2019, reaching MAD 41.4 billion. These numbers reflect Morocco's commitment to reviving the country's tourism sector following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Morocco has set ambitious goals for its tourism industry, aiming to attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026 and generate approximately 200,120 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The country also targets tourism revenue of MAD 120 billion, a significant increase from the MAD 93 billion reported in 2022.

With its rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and vibrant traditions, Morocco continues to captivate travellers from around the world. The nation's commitment to growth and resilience in the face of adversity positions it as a rising star in the global tourism arena.

Morocco's tourism sector is not just rebounding; it's thriving and poised for an even brighter future as it continues to attract visitors and set new standards in the industry.
