Etihad Airways is celebrating a significant milestone, its 20th anniversary, by unveiling a new-look Boeing 787 Dreamliner at the Dubai Airshow 2023. This remarkable development aligns with the airline's forward-looking vision and commitment to offering an exceptional in-flight experience.

A Peek at the New Dreamliner

The spotlight at this week’s Dubai Airshow is on Etihad’s latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner, an embodiment of modern aviation excellence. The new aircraft from the UAE’s national airline is not just another addition to the fleet; it's a leap into the future of air travel. Following the arrival of a new 787-10 in October, Etihad is now showcasing its latest Boeing 787-9, one of four new Dreamliners joining its fleet.

Enhanced Cabin Features

Etihad’s new Dreamliner cabin boasts significant improvements, making the airline's award-winning cabins even more luxurious. The airplane features Etihad's newest cabin interior with 32 seats in Business class and 271 seats in Economy. The Business cabin introduces a unique, customised version of Collins’ Elements seat, making Etihad the world's first airline to employ this seat design on the Boeing 787.

These new seats offer passengers ample space, comfort, and enhanced privacy with suite doors and increased suite height. Every Business seat provides direct aisle access, a fully lie-flat bed measuring 78 inches in length, a 17.3-inch 4K TV screen, and state-of-the-art amenities including Bluetooth headphone pairing, wireless charging, multiple charging outlets, and ample storage space.
In Economy, the new 787 Dreamliner offers more legroom, with 244 standard seats and 27 Economy Space seats featuring four inches of additional leg space.

Cutting-edge In-flight Entertainment and Connectivity

The aircraft is equipped with Safran's latest in-flight entertainment technology, including Rave Ultra 13.3″ 4K touch-screen displays. Passengers can connect their personal devices to the screen for a more integrated entertainment experience. Additionally, the Dreamliner features a new high-speed Wi-Fi solution from Viasat, using Ka-band technology for streaming capabilities and Live TV, including news and sports channels. Etihad Guest members enjoy complimentary conversation packages, while all passengers have the option to purchase unlimited data plans for the flight’s duration.

Expansion and Growth

This new aircraft is a cornerstone in Etihad's expansion plans. The airline has added 12 new destinations this year and is gearing up for more flights to India, Boston, and Nairobi in the coming months. Etihad has also increased operations in several regions, enhancing flight frequencies and network connections. Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, remarked, “Our 20th anniversary is not just a celebration of past achievements, but a stepping stone for future growth. These new planes are instrumental in our expansion plans, aiming to connect guests to more destinations conveniently.

The Maldives tourism sector, once a top choice for Indian holidaymakers, is making concerted efforts to win back travellers from India. This push comes after the island nation observed a significant decline in Indian visitors, spurred by a social media incident where Maldivian officials made derogatory comments about India and its Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) is spearheading this initiative by planning to conduct road shows in several major Indian cities. These events aim to mend ties and promote the Maldives as an ideal vacation spot. In addition, MATATO has expressed a desire to enhance tourism collaboration with India during discussions with India's high commissioner in the Maldives, Munu Mahawar.

Despite traditionally being one of the Maldives' largest tourist markets, India recently fell to the sixth position in terms of visitor numbers, overtaken by countries like China and the United Kingdom. To address this, MATATO is not only focusing on road shows but also planning influencer and media familiarisation trips in the upcoming months.

This renewed focus on attracting Indian tourists is part of a broader strategy to strengthen bilateral ties and boost the tourism sector, which is crucial for the Maldives' economy. The initiative reflects both nations' interests in maintaining strong travel and tourism relations, despite recent political tensions.

As Uttar Pradesh gears up for the festive season, religious tourism is seeing a notable revival. Cities like Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Mathura are at the forefront, preparing to host millions of pilgrims for events such as Ram Navami and Navratri. Varanasi alone witnessed a staggering 95.63 lakh pilgrims in March, predominantly for darshan at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

The state's tourism infrastructure is under significant enhancement to accommodate this surge. The recent inauguration of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor has already increased visitor numbers, with donations to the temple reaching new heights. Similarly, the new Ram Lalla Temple in Ayodhya, following the consecration of the Ram Lalla idol, is attracting a daily average of over two lakh visitors.

The increase in pilgrims has also been supported by improved air connectivity, with Ayodhya now offering 24 daily flights, including new routes to major cities like Hyderabad and Mumbai. These developments have not only facilitated easier access for devotees but also spurred economic growth in the region.

Local markets are expected to benefit significantly from the influx of tourists, particularly through the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, which promotes local crafts and specialties. This surge in tourism is anticipated to create numerous indirect employment opportunities, enhancing the livelihoods of the local populace.

As the state continues to develop its religious tourism infrastructure, including the construction of the Mathura-Vrindavan Corridor, the potential for cultural exchange and economic prosperity appears promising. This holistic approach aims not only to enhance the spiritual experience for visitors but also to foster community development and empowerment across Uttar Pradesh.
