India has completed its first 410-meter Hyperloop test track, marking a significant milestone in the country's transportation evolution. The project, a collaboration between Indian Railways, IIT Madras, and startup TuTr, was announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who shared a video of the test track's completion on social media.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Vaishnaw expressed pride in the accomplishment, saying, “Bharat's first Hyperloop test track (410 meters) completed. Team Railways, IIT-Madras' Avishkar Hyperloop team, and TuTr (an incubated startup).”

The test track is part of an innovative transportation initiative that aims to revolutionize travel in India. The system uses pods, which are pressurized vehicles traveling at extraordinary speeds through low-pressure tubes, providing a new mode of transport with remarkable efficiency.

The Hyperloop system, first popularized by Elon Musk in 2012, has since captured global attention. India’s test track signifies the country’s ambitious move towards implementing this cutting-edge technology. The initiative involves IIT Madras's Avishkar Hyperloop team, consisting of 76 students—both undergraduate and postgraduate—working in partnership with TuTr, a startup fostered by IIT Madras.

The implementation of the Hyperloop technology will take place in two stages. Each pod is designed to carry 24 to 28 passengers between destinations without intermediate stops, drastically reducing travel time and offering a modern solution for efficient, direct travel.

This major achievement underscores India's commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and advancing transportation technology. With the potential to dramatically reduce travel times and increase efficiency, the Hyperloop system is poised to be a game-changer in India’s transportation landscape.

In a significant move to promote tourism and economic growth, the Malaysian government has announced the extension of the visa exemption for Indian nationals until December 31, 2026. This extension aligns with Malaysia’s plans for its ASEAN chairmanship in 2025 and its preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

The announcement was made by Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Awang Alik Jeman on December 20, 2024. In his statement, Awang Alik confirmed that a similar visa exemption had also been granted to Chinese nationals, further solidifying Malaysia's strategic visa liberalisation plan. The plan, which was launched on December 1, 2023, grants a 30-day visa exemption to both Indian and Chinese nationals.

"This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance Malaysia’s appeal as a top travel destination while ensuring the safety and security of the nation," said Awang Alik. The extension is expected to attract a higher number of tourists from India and China, providing a significant boost to Malaysia’s tourism sector, which is vital to the country’s post-pandemic recovery.

The move reflects Malaysia’s commitment to balancing ease of access with national security concerns. As the country prepares for key international events, including ASEAN chairmanship and Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the visa exemption is seen as a crucial part of Malaysia's long-term growth strategy in the tourism and economic sectors.
