Mayenda Introduces Reposado Double Cask: A New Era in Sipping Tequila

Mayenda Tequila, known for its innovative approach to tequila-making, has just launched its latest creation: Mayenda Tequila Reposado Double Cask. This new addition to the Mayenda lineup offers an elevated sipping experience, perfect for those looking to savor a refined tequila this summer.

Building on the success of Mayenda Blanco, the first tequila made with the brand's unique process of infusing roasted agave and agave miel (honey) before the final distillation, the Reposado Double Cask takes things a step further. This tequila undergoes a six-month aging process in a combination of American and European oak barrels, enhancing its complexity and depth.

Jesus Susunaga, Maestro Tequilero at Casa San Nicolás, explains the inspiration behind the new release: “With Mayenda Blanco, we knew we had unlocked new possibilities for expressing deeper flavors of the agave, thanks to the two extra steps in our signature process; yet it still felt like we had only scratched the surface of what was possible. When developing our Reposado, we decided to employ a double cask maturation and longer aging process. This resulted in an exceptionally smooth and balanced, aged tequila that maintains the soul of our beloved Blanco.”

Mayenda's signature process starts with 100% Blue Weber agave, grown in the highlands of Jalisco. The roasted agave and agave miel infusion before the final distillation step adds unique, naturally deepened notes of roasted agave and herbal complexity. This process sets Mayenda apart from other premium tequilas, creating a soulful, honeyed, and multi-dimensional flavor profile.

For the Reposado Double Cask, the tequila is aged in both American and European oak barrels. The American oak imparts rich, sweet notes of butterscotch, honeycomb, and vanilla, while the European oak adds a dry, spicy, and earthy profile with hints of cinnamon, chamomile, and red apple. This careful balance of flavors is achieved through a longer aging process of six months, compared to the typical two to three months for most Reposado tequilas.

Every drop of Mayenda Tequila is meticulously blended by Susunaga and his team at Casa San Nicolás to ensure the highest quality and consistency. Susunaga's extensive experience with aged spirits has enabled him to master this delicate craft, pioneering a new type of tequila in Mayenda.

Mayenda Reposado Double Cask can be enjoyed neat or in elevated cocktails like the Morita Martini or Elevated Paloma. Recipes and more information are available on the Mayenda website.

This elegant sipping tequila will be available in select retailers in the United States and Mexico starting June 2024, with a suggested retail price of $75 USD per 750 mL bottle or 1,445 Pesos in Mexico. As always, please sip responsibly.

Paan has long been woven into India’s social and cultural fabric, carrying a sense of nostalgia while continuing to evolve with changing tastes. Today, Banarasi paan stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation, offering both familiar flavours and contemporary twists that appeal across generations.

For those looking to explore this iconic indulgence, here are five types of Banarasi paan worth trying at least once:

Mango Paan

A refreshing seasonal variation, Mango Paan blends real mango pulp with traditional fillings like gulkand, coconut, and fennel. The result is a softer, juicier paan that balances sweetness with a light tang, making it ideal for summer. This modern take is popular at Mast Banarasi Paan.

Chocolate-Coated Paan Bites

Designed for those new to paan, these bite-sized creations offer a fusion twist. Coated in chocolate and often topped with nuts, they retain the core paan flavours inside while adding a familiar, dessert-like appeal. This variation highlights how paan is evolving for younger audiences, with options available at Mast Banarasi Paan.

Fire Paan

A viral sensation, Fire Paan delivers a theatrical experience where the paan is briefly lit before being served. Beyond the spectacle, it offers a subtle smoky warmth that adds a unique dimension to the flavour. It is widely available at outlets such as Odeon Gupta Paan Shop.

Classic Meetha Banarasi Paan

The foundation of paan culture, the classic meetha paan remains timeless. Filled with gulkand, fennel, coconut, and aromatic ingredients, it delivers a perfectly balanced flavour profile that defines the authentic Banarasi experience. Traditional versions are widely found in Varanasi, including Banarasi Paan House.

Rose Paan

Light, fragrant, and subtly sweet, Rose Paan focuses on floral notes through rose essence and gulkand. It offers a softer, dessert-like experience, ideal for those who prefer milder flavours. This variant is available at The Betel Leaf Co..

Paan continues to remain relevant by seamlessly blending heritage with innovation. Whether enjoyed for its traditional comfort or its contemporary reinventions, Banarasi paan reflects a culinary culture that is both rooted and evolving.
