The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) is proud to announce its new President, Mr. Pradeep Shetty, Director of Maharaja Hotels, Mumbai. Elected unanimously, Mr. Shetty will officially assume office on January 1, 2024. His extensive experience and dedication to the industry make him the ideal candidate for this crucial role.

Having previously served as Vice President and actively contributed to FHRAI for over a decade, Mr. Shetty is also the current President of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI). In his statement, Mr. Shetty outlined several key priorities for his tenure as FHRAI President.

A Vision for the Future

Mr. Shetty expressed a commitment to engage with the government to create a more favorable regulatory framework for the hospitality sector. He highlighted the pressing need for the sector to receive infrastructure status, which would facilitate long-term loans at competitive interest rates, ultimately accelerating sector growth.

Furthermore, Mr. Shetty emphasized the importance of additional stimulus packages and incentives from the government. These are essential to enable the sector to achieve its ambitious goal of welcoming 100 million international tourists by 2047. This includes favorable GST (Goods and Services Tax) policies and measures to ease doing business in the hospitality sector.

Beyond these priorities, Mr. Shetty also addressed challenges such as music copyright issues, service charges, and concerns related to anti-competitive activities by major tech companies.

New Office Bearers

During the FHRAI's 67th Annual General Meeting held on September 28, 2023, new office bearers were elected. Mr. Surendra Kumar Jaiswal, Mr. K Nagaraju, and Mr. T S Walia were elected as Vice Presidents from different regional associations. Additionally, Mr. DVS Somaraju was elected as Honorary Treasurer, and Mr. Nirav Gandhi as Honorary Secretary. Mr. Sudesh Kumar Poddar and Mr. Amarvir Singh will serve as Joint Honorary Secretaries of the Federation.

Mr. Shetty's election represents a new chapter for FHRAI, and his commitment to the industry's growth and success is evident. Together with the new office bearers, he aims to lead the organization toward a future of excellence, innovation, and growth in India's hospitality sector.

Deepak has been associated with Spice Route Restaurant & Catering for approximately 2.5 years, during which he has played a pivotal role in strengthening restaurant operations, enhancing guest experiences, and supporting the company’s overall growth strategy. His elevation reflects the organization’s confidence in his leadership capabilities, operational expertise, and long-term vision.

With over 25 years of global experience across the USA, Europe, the UAE, and Asia, Deepak brings deep expertise in restaurant operations, culinary management, business development, and customer service. He is widely recognized for his proficiency in Indian and Asian cuisines and has successfully managed high-volume operations while ensuring consistent service quality and guest satisfaction.

In his new role, Deepak will be responsible for overseeing food and beverage operations, driving business development initiatives, managing operational planning, enhancing customer engagement, and supporting brand expansion across the Stroudsburg and Pocono regions.

Prior to joining Spice Route Restaurant & Catering, Deepak served as Food & Beverage Operations Director at Hotel PAG Šimuni Resort, Croatia, where he successfully launched and managed the Mali Raj International Multi Cuisine Restaurant. He also worked with the Americana Group in Dubai, gaining valuable experience in large-scale international restaurant operations and hospitality management.

Earlier in his career, Deepak held leadership roles at Tivoli Grand Resort Hotel and was part of the opening team at The Great Kebab Factory, Punjabi Bagh. These roles strengthened his expertise in menu innovation, hygiene standards, cost control, vendor management, and team development.

Throughout his career, Deepak has demonstrated strong capabilities in HACCP implementation, operational planning, staff training, and customer service excellence. Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata and Ozone Convention Center have announced the appointment of Prasanta Nandi as the new Director of Food & Beverage. With more than 15 years of experience across luxury and upper-upscale hospitality brands, Prasanta brings extensive expertise in operational excellence, guest experience, commercial performance, and strategic Food & Beverage leadership.

Prasanta started his hospitality journey in operations, building hands-on experience across guest service, restaurant operations, bars, banqueting, and outdoor catering. This operational foundation continues to influence his leadership approach, giving him a balanced understanding of both guest-facing experiences and backend management.

Over the years, he has worked with some of the hospitality industry’s leading brands including Hyatt, Marriott, Starwood, and The Leela Group. His professional experience spans restaurant management, beverage operations, large-format banqueting, outdoor catering, sales strategy, and departmental leadership.

Before joining Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata, Prasanta served as Director of Food & Beverage at Hyatt Centric Ballygunge Kolkata, where he managed the hotel’s restaurants, bars, banquets, and overall dining strategy. During his tenure, several of the hotel’s dining concepts received industry recognition. Cal-On and YAYAvar were honoured at the Times of India Food and Nightlife Awards in 2025 and 2026 respectively, while YAYAvar also received recognition at the Telegraph Food Awards 2026.

Cal-On further earned accolades including Best Microbrewery/Taproom in the People’s Choice category by 30 Best Bars and ET F&B Leaders East, along with recognition from the NDTV Food Awards and The Economic Times Restaurant and Nightlife Awards in 2025.

Throughout his career, Prasanta has led multi-outlet Food & Beverage operations, managed large-scale banqueting and high-profile events, improved operational efficiencies, and delivered strong commercial performance. His contributions have also been recognised with awards including the BW Hotelier National Zone Winner – Head of F&B 2024–25 and the F&B Manager Award by IHC London and IIHM in 2023.

Outside of work, Prasanta enjoys travelling across rural India, where he draws inspiration from regional cuisines, local cultures, and culinary traditions. He believes hospitality is shaped through meaningful human connections, storytelling, and memorable food experiences alongside operational excellence.

In his new role, Prasanta will focus on strengthening the Food & Beverage offerings at Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata through enhanced guest experiences, operational consistency, market-relevant dining concepts, and improved commercial performance. His vision is to position the hotel as a dependable and approachable dining destination for both hotel guests and the local Kolkata audience.

At Ozone Convention Center, he will work towards strengthening the venue’s positioning as a preferred destination for weddings, conferences, corporate events, and social celebrations. Leveraging his expertise in large-scale banqueting and event management, he aims to create seamless and memorable experiences through thoughtful planning and personalised service.

United Hospitality Management India has announced the appointment of Ricardo Leal as Vice President Operations – India & Southeast Asia, further strengthening its leadership structure across key growth markets in the region.

Based in India, Ricardo will oversee operational performance across all company-managed properties in India and Southeast Asia. He will report to Deepika Arora while also taking responsibility for Southeast Asia operations under the leadership of Klaus Assmann.

The appointment comes as UHM India continues to expand its footprint across high-growth hospitality markets. The company is focusing on strengthening operational performance, improving guest experiences, and building long-term value for stakeholders as India remains a major focus market for the group.

Ricardo Leal brings more than 20 years of international hospitality leadership experience across luxury and ultra-luxury segments. Over the course of his career, he has worked across multiple global markets with expertise spanning hotel feasibility studies, design planning, pre-opening strategies, repositioning projects, and large-scale operational management.

In his new role, Ricardo will focus on driving operational consistency, improving property performance, and aligning hotel operations with the company’s long-term growth strategy across India and Southeast Asia.

Speaking about the appointment, Deepika Arora described Ricardo’s addition as an important step in the company’s next phase of expansion, highlighting his combination of global experience and operational leadership.
