Brussels, the heart of Belgium, is opening its doors wider to Indian travelers. Visit Brussels, the tourism promotion body for the Belgian capital, recently conducted roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai to showcase what this beautiful city has to offer. These roadshows aimed to reinforce Brussels' presence in the Indian travel market, and they brought together over 150 key partners, luxury agents, and media.
One of the highlights of Brussels' offerings is the Belgian Beer World, which opened its doors on September 9, 2023. Located within the iconic Brussels Stock Exchange building, this sprawling 12,000-square-meter facility is a beer enthusiast's dream come true. It promises an immersive and interactive experience, celebrating Belgium's beloved brews and their global influence.
This year, Brussels is celebrating the 130th anniversary of the Art Nouveau movement. In 1893, architect Victor Horta laid the foundation for this artistic and architectural movement in Brussels. To mark this milestone, Brussels is hosting a diverse range of events and initiatives, including open architectural masterpieces, workshops, lectures, publications, interior visits, and guided city tours.
Gare Maritime, a former freight station in Brussels, has undergone significant renovations to restore its original architectural heritage. Today, it offers a multifaceted experience, including events, retail spaces, offices, shops, food markets, parks, urban gardening, guided tours, and exhibitions. The food court here is one of the new culinary destinations in Brussels, joining the likes of Wolf Food Court and Great Market.
Brussels is also enhancing its accommodation options. Stylish boutique hotels like Juliana Hotel, The Hoxton, and Mix Brussels have opened their doors in 2023. In 2024, five-star luxury hotels like Astoria and Cardo Brussels are set to welcome guests, providing a range of choices for travelers seeking a comfortable stay in the city.
While tourism from India to Brussels is still in the recovery phase, the city is actively working to make itself more appealing to Indian travelers. The roadshows were an excellent opportunity for Visit Brussels to reconnect with the travel trade community and reaffirm its commitment to the Indian market.
With new attractions like the Belgian Beer World and a promising outlook for 2023, Brussels is poised to offer Indian travelers a wealth of experiences and discoveries. In 2022, Brussels saw 35,000 overnight stays from India, with 56% leisure travelers and 44% business travelers. The majority of departures were from Mumbai, making it a key gateway for Indian travelers exploring the charms of Brussels.
