The FIFA World Cup 2026 delivered another exciting day of football, with Türkiye registering a thrilling 3-2 victory over the United States in Group D. In the same group, Paraguay and Australia settled for a goalless draw after a closely contested encounter.
Group F also witnessed competitive action as Japan and Sweden played out a 1-1 draw, while the Netherlands produced a dominant performance to defeat Tunisia 3-0 and strengthen their position in the group standings.
Beyond the on-field action, the tournament is also making headlines for transforming the global travel experience. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), FIFA World Cup 2026 represents the most advanced stage in a two-decade evolution of border management, moving from traditional visa systems to integrated digital ecosystems that combine identity verification, border entry, mobility and traveller services.
The report highlights how each FIFA World Cup has contributed to the evolution of international travel. Germany 2006 focused on scaling visa processing within the Schengen framework, while South Africa 2010 introduced the Event Visa and advance passenger screening. Brazil 2014 implemented specialised visa categories, followed by Russia 2018's FAN ID system that integrated border entry, transport and stadium access. Qatar 2022 further advanced digital travel through the Hayya platform, which later evolved into a permanent national e-visa system.
As the largest FIFA World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams and jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, the 2026 tournament is showcasing how digital border technologies can manage large-scale international travel while maintaining high security standards.
A key feature of this edition is the adoption of a "trusted travel" model, enabling pre-approved, low-risk travellers to enjoy faster and more predictable immigration clearance. Ahead of the tournament, the United States processed more than 5.9 million Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) applications, approving over five million visa-free entries. In addition, more than 1.6 million travellers enrolled in Trusted Traveller Programmes such as Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI to benefit from expedited border clearance.
Technology has also played a major role in simplifying travel. FIFA PASS has prioritised visa appointments for match ticket holders, while COMPASS, an AI-powered digital assistant, has helped visitors navigate entry requirements and supported border authorities in managing traveller flows more efficiently.
Mexico has further enhanced regional connectivity by allowing citizens of more than 65 countries to enter visa-free for up to 180 days. Travellers holding valid visas or residency permits for the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom or the Schengen Area have also been exempt from Mexican tourism visa requirements. The country's trusted traveller programme, Viajero Confiable, enables eligible passengers to use automated immigration kiosks and dedicated express lanes.
Similarly, Canada has streamlined arrivals through its Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system and the NEXUS trusted traveller programme. Visitors have also been able to complete customs and immigration declarations up to 72 hours before arrival using the ArriveCAN app, providing faster access through express lanes at major airports, including Toronto and Vancouver.
With world-class football on the field and groundbreaking innovations in travel and border management off it, FIFA World Cup 2026 continues to demonstrate how mega sporting events can shape the future of global tourism and international mobility.

WTE Miami has opened visitor registration for its 2026 edition, setting the stage for one of the largest and most internationally diverse travel trade events in the Americas. Scheduled to take place on October 27 and 28 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the event is expected to double in scale following its acquisition by Fairfest Media earlier this year.
The event will bring together more than 500 exhibitors, 7,000 buyers, 500 hosted and VIP buyers, and senior travel industry leaders from over 70 countries. More than 20 National Tourism Organizations and Convention Bureaus are expected to participate, making WTE Miami a key platform for global tourism collaboration.
A major highlight of this year's edition is the Travel Advisor of the Future Conference, which will feature over 100 speakers across more than 20 sessions. The conference will explore the future of travel distribution, artificial intelligence, consumer behaviour, social media, creator-led destination discovery, and emerging technologies shaping the global travel industry.
Simon Press, Managing Director International, Fairfest Inc., said, "The travel industry is entering one of the most significant periods of transformation in its history. Artificial intelligence is changing how travelers discover and book destinations. Consumer expectations continue to evolve, new distribution channels are emerging and competition for the American traveler has never been greater. The U.S. outbound and domestic travel market continues to thrive. WTE Miami has been created to give the North American travel industry the practical knowledge and global business connections needed to succeed in this rapidly changing environment."
The conference programme is being developed in collaboration with leading industry organisations, including Host Agency Reviews (HAR), the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), and the African Travel Association (ATA). The sessions are designed to provide practical strategies, destination insights, and business opportunities for travel professionals.
Beyond the conference, WTE Miami will serve as a global marketplace for business networking and commercial growth. The event will facilitate more than 10,000 scheduled and on-the-spot business meetings between exhibitors and qualified buyers, creating opportunities for new partnerships across destinations, airlines, hotels, travel advisors, tour operators, and travel technology providers.
The event is being organised in partnership with Miami International Airport (MIA) and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), reinforcing Miami's position as one of the world's leading international travel gateways.
Several global travel associations, including Skål, ASTA, ATTA, and ATA, are supporting the event, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening international tourism and expanding business opportunities across North America.
Confirmed participants include the Jamaica Tourist Board, South African Tourism, China National Tourist Office, Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, Maldives Mission to the United Nations, Belize Tourism Board, Honduras Tourism, Royal Jordanian, Iberia, SKY Airline, Frenchbee, Marriott International, Hyatt Hotels, Juniper Travel Technology, TBO.com, along with many more exhibitors and partners expected to be announced in the coming months.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 continued to deliver exciting action on the pitch, while record-breaking hospitality sales highlighted the tournament's growing commercial success off the field.
In Group C, Morocco registered an impressive 4-2 victory over Haiti in a high-scoring encounter. The win strengthens Morocco's position in the group as the competition moves deeper into the group stage.
In another Group C fixture, Brazil put on a dominant display against Scotland, taking a commanding three-goal lead and underlining their status as one of the tournament favourites.
Group A also witnessed crucial results. South Africa secured a hard-fought victory over South Korea, winning the match by a single goal. Meanwhile, Mexico delivered a strong performance against Czechia, finding the net three times to earn an important result in the group.
Away from the football action, the FIFA World Cup 2026 continues to generate unprecedented interest from fans seeking premium experiences. On Location, the Official Hospitality Provider for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, announced that sales for the FIFA World Cup Official Hospitality Program remain exceptionally strong.
According to the company, hospitality sales revenue for the 2026 tournament surpassed the total hospitality sales achieved during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as early as June 2025, a full year before the tournament began.
The momentum has continued into 2026. As of March 31, 2026, hospitality sales revenue for the FIFA World Cup 2026 had more than doubled the revenue generated by any previous FIFA World Cup hospitality programme. The tournament has also exceeded the number of hospitality packages sold during the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014, which remains the most attended World Cup from a hospitality perspective.
The figures reflect the growing demand for premium sports travel experiences, with fans increasingly seeking exclusive access, enhanced matchday experiences and curated hospitality offerings alongside world-class football.
As the tournament progresses, both the on-field competition and the business of sports hospitality continue to demonstrate the global appeal of the FIFA World Cup, making the 2026 edition one of the most commercially successful tournaments in the event's history.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 continued to deliver action on the field, with Portugal producing one of the most dominant performances of the tournament so far by defeating Uzbekistan 5-0 in their Group K clash.
Portugal's attacking display proved too strong for Uzbekistan as they secured a convincing five-goal victory and strengthened their position in the group standings.
In Group L, England and Ghana played out a goalless draw in a tightly contested encounter. Despite several opportunities at both ends, neither side was able to find the breakthrough, resulting in both teams sharing the points.
Another Group L fixture saw Croatia edge past Panama with a 1-0 victory. Croatia's disciplined performance and decisive goal helped them collect all three points and maintain momentum in the competition.
In Group K, Colombia secured a narrow 1-0 win over DR Congo. The South American side delivered a composed performance to claim an important victory and improve their chances of progressing further in the tournament.
Beyond the football action, the FIFA World Cup 2026 is also expected to provide a significant boost to the hospitality sector in the United States. According to a recent report by CoStar and Tourism Economics, lodging demand generated by the tournament is projected to increase U.S. hotel Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) by 1.7% year-on-year during June and July 2026.
The impact is expected to be even stronger in host cities, where RevPAR is forecast to grow by 12.7% during the World Cup months. For the full year, host markets are projected to record a 3.8% increase in RevPAR, highlighting the economic benefits associated with one of the world's largest sporting events.
While industry experts describe the overall growth as modest, the report notes that the tournament will make a meaningful contribution to hotel industry performance in 2026. Increased visitor arrivals, longer stays and higher occupancy levels are expected to support hotels across key host destinations throughout the competition.
As the tournament progresses, both football fans and hospitality businesses continue to benefit from the excitement and global attention surrounding FIFA World Cup 2026.
